HIDE AND SEEK? nope, its "Hide and Reveal"

Week 2
Sem 1
"Hide and Reveal"

This class is based mostly on how we combine our visual narrative thinking skills from what is seen now and how we can transform a form into a visual perspective. Every week we get a word or phrase for example this week, Hide and reveal, we are to come up with an illustration based on this phrase. After a whole lot of experimenting and thinking we, especially myself, could not come up with much but as we got on with our classes, we started understanding what was expected.

These were my first few ideas

Basic ideas for Hide and Reveal assignment

Final idea and understanding
After a few ideas sketched out i had approached my lecturer where he had given me a greater understanding on how i could accomplish this assignment. What i did not realise was how much i was missing out, instead of exploring i was continuing on my basic ideas which could just lead me to less of a development.

My lecturer had presented me with some of the greatest visual artist who had worked with illusions in his paintings, Salvador Dali.

Dalis' work
One of my inspirations to my work above came from this painting by Salvador Dali, getting the object and foreground to be seen in different points of view messing tih your mind. Art.

After Finalising my work we moved on to complete it, for a cut out session this coming week, on illustrator.

I started out by using the pen tool and drawing out the basic outline to my idea, basically we would just do a breif idea on paper and develop it further on illustrator. On the left is how i started it out and the bottom it is the complete figure outline.

Latest alternative

This top figure is of a lady sitting between 2 trees with birds posing as the eyes. i later developed the idea by removing the birds outlines, adding ground and leaves for the hair(left).

Ofcourse we werent just expected to do this in illustration, it was the majority of us who did this for the first time. we were given an image to cut out and extract. heres how we did it with the respective image.

Image used

If you look close enough, the ice cream cones left descent has a blue outline with tiny boxes. Now this is done by using the pen tool, it basically alows the user to select wanted points and extract whatvere intended without any inequalities. With the pen tool we can even drag the line into a curve depending on the shape which allows us to select the curvy areas which can be barely succeeded with any other tool.

After 'Connecting the dots', i can change the interior colour which in this case is black, this informs me of which areas i had selected to be change or relocated.

TADA, finally completeing all three i could extract any single selected image and move it around as i like. There were a few other places i had tried this method out aswell!

Hipster Snowy
I had done  my personal work by extracting this hipster princess whereby i can later use for my own mac cover art. (:

Fin.
